Welcome to the first instalment in what I’m calling the JellyBread extended universe, a new podcast where I talk to leading writers about their relationship with the art of storytelling. Join me over the coming months for in-depth and entertaining chats with writers such as Abi Morgan, Sarah Waters, Niall Griffiths and many more as I seek to explore the mechanics as well as the magic of storytelling.
The idea for this came about as I got further and further into the idea of deconstructing the story that was to become JellyBread, and how, through the adopted format for the story, I was dealing with the friction between what I wanted to do in the serial, and what I had learned in the writing of my previous three novels.
Don’t forget, JellyBread: the Novel, kicks off tomorrow (Sept 2nd, if you’re reading this after today, which is September 1st).
The JellyBread extended universe (some of which will be exclusive to paid subscribers) will include blogposts looking at elements of process, as well as further (autofiction) adventures in the lives of the characters that will give us a deeper understanding of the world, but not necessarily be connected directly to the plot of the main story.
